A driveway gate can be made from a simple wood or wrought iron structure that can be opened manually or even automatically depending on your budget. No matter what it is made of, it will have a few common things which are essential parts of the gate\’s operation. Remember not to leave any spacing or gaps in between the planks when laying them side by side because they will eventually shrink and gap overtime and also dry out. Method:
- First thing that you need to do is to measure the opening that needs to be gated and lay down enough fence planks near the opening area.
- Next, cut the 2\’-by-4\’s accordingly to the desired size and lay them in a Z pattern over the fence planks so that the upper and lower legs of the Z are at least 8 to 12 inches of the top and bottom of the planks.
- Then, flip the entire assembly over or re-assemble them to allow the planks to be on top of the Z while the Z is on the ground.
- After that, you need to screw the planks onto the Z bracing by using at least two screws per plank and per brace. Always ensure that they are well secured.
- Next, cut the gate accordingly with the exact width and then, shape the top (optional).
- Finally, you have to install the hinges to enable the gate to be hanged before you proceed with the installation of the gate latch.
Maintaining your property\’s privacy is the main reason on building your own driveway gate. A wooden fence doesn\’t cover what trespassers can see inside your property. Although a gate can be possibly by an expert but it can also be done by you on a small budget but be prepared for the hard work needed. When it will be completed, you will have your own gate which is way better than a wooden fence. Now you no longer have to worry on who\’s trespassing your property.
