Satin finish is commonly used by DIY enthusiasts whenever they are repairing and refurbishing old wooden furniture. Satin finish is chosen because once you applied the satin finish and allow it to dry; it can protect your furniture for longer period. Even with regular care you would be able to keep the furniture clean without causing any damage to the finish. In order to create satin finish on your wooden table, you can use and apply a polyurethane-based finishing product. The end result would enable you to see a medium gloss finish that provides an extra protective coat, able to hide minor scratches and imperfections that you can see on the table’s surface.

To clean a satin finish table, you need:

  • Lint-free cloths
  • Silicone-free polish
  • Bucket
  • Oil-based soap

  • First of all, you need to clean the table
    • Clear of any dust that you can see on the table every day or regularly by using a lint-free cloth.
    • By doing this, you can prevent any dust from building up on your table reduce any minor stains from forming on the furniture. It will also help keep the table look shinier.
  • Next step is to take a silicone-free furniture polish in order for you to maintain the satin finish on your wooden table.

The silicone-free furniture polish should be used on a monthly basis and you must make sure to follow all the instructions provided by the product’s manufacturer.

  • To maintain a long lasting look on your satin finish table, you should do a deep clean on your satin finished table at least once in a year.
    • First thing that you need to do is to mix 2 caps full of oil-based soap along with a gallon of hot water.
    • Then, you need to dip your lint-free cloth into a soap solution before you start to wring out any excess on the surface of your table. Any dirt and stains that you see on the table needs to be washed and removed from the table.
  • Finally, you have to dry the table especially by using a clean cloth. In order to create shining table, you can apply your silicone-free polish onto the table’s surface.

If there is food and beverages on your table top, you have to protect your table’s finish by using coasters and place mat.

Always remember that when you clean a satin finish table

  • You need to move your cloth with the wood’s grain whenever you are doing dusting, cleaning or polishing work.
  • Make sure that you do not leave your wooden furniture outside of your house where they will be receiving heat or direct sunlight. The heat and direct sunlight will cause damage to your wooden table and in the end bleach the satin finish.
  • Do not also place your wooden furniture near windows or any heat sources.
