How to Extend a Smoke Stack Down to a Grate

Some of charcoal grill enthusiasts like to use a smoke stack in order to release heat whenever they are doing their grilling for their family at their own home or during camping activities at the camp site. They also extend the smoke stack to the grate for creating and allowing better distribution of the heat whenever they do their grilling. A better distribution of the heat will enable the meat that you are grilling to cook much faster and more equally. Although the task of modifying your charcoal grill looks like a daunting task for you to do, however if you plan it properly it can be done easily. By having the right supplies and following the instructions accordingly, you would be able to extend your smoke stack charcoal grill instantly and makes your grilling task experience a better heat distribution.

To extend a smoke stack down to a grate, you need:

  • Aluminum gas vent pipe
  • Stainless steel hose clamp
  • Screwdriver
  • Tin snips
  • 5/16-inch drill bit
  • Drill
  • 5/16-inch bolt
  • Nut
  • Washer

How to Extend a Smoke Stack Down to a Grate

  • First thing that you need to do is to take the gas vent pipe and slip it onto the collar of your existing smoke stack which is inside of the grill.
    • Then, take the stainless steel hose clamp and slip it over the vent pipe until it reaches the collar.
    • Make sure that you tighten up the clamp by using the screwdriver in order to secure the vent pipe to your smoke stack collar.
  • The next step is for you to bend the pipe into an “S” shape allowing it to touch the corner of your main cooking chamber.
    • You must make sure that you’re the size of your vent pipe is flushed with the foundation of the lid of your grill.

You should cut the vent pipe by using the tin snips so that the vent pipe is cut flushed with the foundation of the grill’s lid.

  • Next step is to hold the vent pipe against your grill.
    • Then, you need to drill a hole using the 5/16-inch drill bit at the center of the vent pipe through the side of the grill’s lid.
  • After that, you can slip in a nut through the open hole on the lid right through the vent pipe.
    • Place a washer on the bolt and secure it in place using the nut. In order to make sure that it is tighten, you can use the wrench.
    • Once finished, you are ready to make use of your extended smoke stack and enjoy your grilling.

    Always remember that whenever you want to extend your smoke stack down to a grate,

    • Make sure that you’re the size of your vent pipe is similar to the width of your existing smoke stack.
