What ever the joke about the moldy produce in your refrigerator being science experiment has got to be stop! It is the time for you to clean out the refrigerator to freshen things up. You can make the cleaning simple and easy to do within weekly house chore. Most of the things that you need to clean your fridge are easily available in your home especially the kitchen. You can browse good cleaning products in any hardware store or discount store. Here’s how you can clean your refrigerator.
Things that you need:
- vinegar or baking soda
- soft dishcloths or kitchen sponges
- mild dish soap
Steps:
- First, turn the temperature-control knob inside the refrigerator to “OFF”. In case if your refrigerator has a drip pan underneath, simply remove carefully and clean it.
- Then, take everything out of the refrigerator. When the refrigerator is empty, you can clean it more efficiently and the food and drinks contents will not be contaminated during the cleaning process. If you found food that is already moldy, outdated or spoiled, you should throw them right away.
- Next, fill the sink with warm soapy water. You can dilute mild dish soap into the warm water.
- Using a clean dry cloth, wipe any excess of food matter out from the drawers. Start by hand-washing the shelves, drawers and wire racks. After the hand-wash, rinse them in warm water. Let the shelves, drawers and wire racks to drain and dry in a dish rack, newspapers or paper towels.
- Next, remove any food matter from the bottom of the refrigerator. Using a sponge or dishcloth, wash the inside of the refrigerator with warm soapy water. You can use a solution of 2 tablespoon of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water to wash the inside of the refrigerator and for odor control. You can also apply a solution of 1 gallon warm water and 1 cup of vinegar, then rinse. Put a box of baking soda inside the refrigerator will also cut down on odors.
- After that, replace all shelves, drawers and wire racks. Wash with warm and soapy water the outside of the refrigerator and the gasket which is the rubber molding around the door. Rinse the soapy water and then wipe dry.
- Leave your refrigerator for couple of hours to dry completely. Turn the temperature control knob inside your refrigerator back to the recommended setting. Clean any of your bottles or jars that are sticky before returning them into the refrigerator.
