Getting in a Garage When You’ve Lost the Garage Door Remote

If you want to save time entering your garage without opening the door manually, installing an electronic garage door is very useful and becomes a common device in many homes. You can simply press the remote control from your car without having to get out of your car to open the garage’s door. However, if you lose the remote control, the only way to access your garage from the outside is to enter your security code numbers via a keypad. The keypad is available on almost all manufacturer or model of electronic garage door openers. Here are the steps on how to enter open your electronic garage door without remote control.

Steps:

  1. First, search for the garage door keypad. It should usually be placed within your easy reach somewhere around the edge of the garage door. The buttons may be hidden by a plastic cover in some cases.
  2. If necessary, flip open the cover to reveal the keypad. For a covered garage door keypad, a set of numeric buttons will be shown after the cover is opened.
  3. Then, press the number buttons according to your entry code to enter. The codes are usually in forms of 4 digits or more. After the correct code is pressed, some mechanisms will open immediately.
  4. Press the “Enter” or “OK” button if available to make the garage door open. While your remote is still missing, you will need to use the keypad to enter the garage. Contact your dealer to get your remote control replaced. Consult your instruction manual for steps on how to deactivate all remote controls connected to your opener while waiting for new remote control. The reason is if your remote has been stolen, it could be used to open your garage.
